The lid was manufactured under the Majestic Plate trade name by Jay during the early 1900s. The firm was established in 1867 as James Jay, and he purchased the premises of Richard Attenborough in 1887. In 1897 the firm became James Jay Ltd and in 19904 it became Jay, using the Majestic Plate trade name. The business was closed permanently in the 1950s. The lid
