"Nurse with Candle" by Elisabeth Chase, Amer., (20th Century) Drawing Calame was the premiere SwissWoodcut, ca. 1920's 40's, ed. unknown but probably small, 4 1 4 x 4 3 8, signed in pencil, on thin cream laid japan paper, tipped to a cream wove support sheet. Small spots of foxing or staining from wood pulp inclusions in ther paper, mostly in arch above cross at right in image. A small but iconic image of the nurse as caregiver and healer to the sick, by this as of yet sparsely documented graphic artist.
